One thing that my characters believed during their discussions around the tea table was this idea that the seven hills of Sheffield would protect them from the German Zeppelins in WWI. Sadly this was not to be the case.
Thomas, Ivy’s Dad, was keen to remind his family that he thought the air raid warnings were excessive because the Zeppelins would never reach them.
How often do we all believe that ‘it could never happen to us.’ Even though Thomas was wrong, he was a rock for his family when trouble fell upon them. They were a family that had a strong, uniting faith. In 1916 they were not alone.
