Sheffield University at War 1916

Sheffield university has a wonderful vista, those red bricks stand out as you approach it. In WWI many of the students formed a battalion known as the Sheffield Pals. They went off to France, only to die in the mud of the Somme. In my novel, my female character Ivy Jenkins, plays violin in the university orchestra with her cousin Archie. Archie lost an eye as a child and so couldn’t follow his friends into the fight but he makes up for it as an unofficial spy . My male character Professor Mikkel Jacobsen teaches Archaeology and Russian at the university in 1916. Russia was an ally of Great Britain in WWI.
